SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP)
What is SNAP?
SNAP food benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), also known in Washington as Basic Food, provides funds to families with low incomes to purchase groceries. Qualifying applicants receive a pre-paid EBT card that works like a debit card and gets re loaded monthly. This card can be used at most grocery stores and farmers markets on food items. The amount of SNAP financial assistance you can receive is based on your family size, countable income and monthly expenses such as housing, utilities, child support and medical costs. People who receive SNAP benefits can still visit their local food pantry and receive food assistance.
